Dame Laura Davies is one of golf’s most recognisable and influential stars, with a career spanning nearly 40 years.

During that time, Davies has become one of the most decorated golfers, collecting over 85 professional trophies, including four Major titles.

Here are 17 things you may not know about her.

1. Laura Jane Davies was born 5th October 1963 in Coventry, England

2. Davies got into golf when she was only 10 years old. She would often play with her father and older brother.

3. Whilst growing up, Davies spent around three years living in Marietta, Georgia. This was due to her fathers job as an engineer for the Lockeed Aircraft Corporation.

4. Davies’ hobbies include: fast cars, cooking and sport, with her favourite team being Liverpool FC.

5. Davies enjoyed a successful amateur career and was part of the GB&I Curtis Cup team in 1984.

6. Turning professional in 1985, Davies went on to win the Belgium Open as well as the Rookie of the Year and Order of Merit.

7. In 1986, she would win the British Women’s Open (prior to it becoming a major) the following year, she would win the US Women’s Open in an 18-hole playoff against Ayako Okamoto and JoAnne Carner.

8. Davies made her first appearance at the Solheim Cup in 1990, she would go on to play in 12 consecutive cups!

9. Davies is known to enjoy a bet, especially on the football.

10. In the mid 90’s, Davies was involved in designing Sutton Green Golf Club in Surrey, helping architect David Walker design the course.

11. Davies was awarded a Damehood by the Queen in the 2014 honours list.

12. In 2015, she was inducted into the World Golf Hall Of Fame.

13. Davies is also an honorary member of St Andrews, an accolade given to her by the R&A.

14. Currently, she has 87 professional wins and is also the all time leading winner on the Ladies European Tour with 45 victories.

15. Davies became the first female to play in a men’s European Tour event in 2004, entering the ANZ Championship in Australia, she would fail to make the cut.

16. In 2019, Davies made her first appearance as a vice captain under Catriona Matthew at Gleneagles. Team Europe would triumph in a phenomenal event, 14.5 – 13.5.

17. Davies has previously worked with the BBC with their Open coverage. She currently works for Sky Sports and covered the 2018 Ryder Cup.
