Anne van Dam: Europe’s Next Solheim Cup Star

Anne van Dam is one of the most in-form lady golfers in the world right now, and is set to be a huge star on the LET and LPGA Tours as well as at this year’s Solheim Cup.

The 23-year-old Dutchwoman is currently top of the Solheim Cup standings and is now pretty much guaranteed a spot on Catriona Matthew’s European side.

Team Europe will seek to regain the trophy in September at Gleneagles after losing in 2015 and 2017.

Anne van Dam won the Canberra Classic last week in Australia for her fourth LET title, meaning she has now won three tournaments in her last five starts, all on the LET.

She eagled the 15th in the final round and then birdied 16 and 18 to win by four, and now ranks 64th in the world.

Her other wins both came last year in Spain at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open and the Costa del Sol Andalucia Open.

Those victories secured her second spot on the LET Order of Merit, behind Women’s British Open winner Georgia Hall.

Other victories in her relatively short career include the 2015 LET Access Series Finish Open and the 2016 Xiamen International Ladies Open in China, which was her first LET title.

Van Dam is one of the biggest hitters in the game, averaging over 280 yards last year and over 287 yards for the 2019 season.

She was 1st in that statistic last year and 1st this year. Other standout statistics from the 2019 campaign so far include her GIR percentage which is over 86%!

She also ranks 1st in the LPGA Tour’s Driving Distance category with 307 yards, having played one event this season at the Vic Open.

With the LET’s struggle being well publicised, van Dam is restricted with the events she plays, although she was T15th at the LPGA Tour’s Q Series last year so will likely have a few starts with her Category 14 membership.

On her LPGA Tour profile, she cites her interests as sports and with something interesting about her being that she is sometimes more comfortable speaking English rather than Dutch.

One thing for sure is that Team Europe will be much stronger with her in the team at this year’s Solheim Cup.
