Our guide to the best putters 2019 has to offer, including models from recent launches from the likes of Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, Ping and TaylorMade
Best Putters 2019
Widely renowned as the most important club in the bag, the putter is where countless shots can be saved. Therefore finding the right one for you is imperative and because there are so many options and styles to choose from, we have put together this handy guide to tell you the best putters 2019 has to offer.
Many manufacturers are actually reducing the number of head shapes in their ranges and focusing on improved looks, feel and roll from their more compact collections.
Of course, there is still the choice to be made between a blade, mid-mallet or mallet. Blade style putters tend to suit ‘feel’ players with a stronger arc to their putting stroke, moving up into mallets that suit golfers who require extra alignment assistance and/or have much less rotation in their putting stroke.
This, however, is not a hard and fast rule – much of your final decision should be based on what suits your eye and feels good in your hands. Only that way will you gain the confidence you need to hole the putts you want to.
Remember other variations of putter design like counter balanced versions, which feature a heavier head and grip to increase overall stability and promote a smoother tempo.
Best Putters 2019 – What To Consider
Shaft length
The length of your putter will dictate your posture and, in turn, where your eyes are at address. Getting it right will help you monitor face alignment.
Head type
Ideally yours should suit your swing arc, plus your strengths and weaknesses. Mallets tend to offer extra stability, but can come at the cost of feel.
Your preferences
Putting is a confidence game, so you need to like the shape, finish and sightlines on your putter, as well as its weight and feel.

Best Putters 2019
Scotty Cameron Select
Scotty Cameron Select Putters Review
GM Says: Four-way sole balancing means the putters are balanced from face to cavity, and from heel to toe. This creates a putter that sits perfectly square at address to promote easier alignment on virtually any lie. Thinned topline appearances give each head a slightly rounder radius, while plumbing neck dimensions, edges and angles have been squared up for a cleaner look from address. Improved sound and feel are also the result of up to 30% more vibration dampening material connecting the face inlays with the putter bodies.
Odyssey StrokeLab
Odyssey StrokeLab Putters Review
GM says: New to 2019, Odyssey have just released their new range of putters called StrokeLab. Featuring 10 different shapes (six mallets and four blades), the putters have a new White Hot Microhinge insert which enhances feel. However the really interesting technology lies in the shafts which are designed to improve your stroke through a change to the weight distribution.
A graphite body with a steel tip, they are heavier than usual which Odyssey say give greater consistency in the backswing, face angle at impact, ball speed and ball direction.
TaylorMade Spider X
GM says: The tenth generation of TaylorMade’s Spider putter, the refined X comes in two colours, the copper finish as you can see above, and a midnight blue. The model features a much lighter 15g carbon composite core (down from 70g on the Spider Tour) and a 30 per cent heavier outer frame to provide increased stability. This is designed to preserve ball-speed and minimise twisting on off-centre hits. The two compact tungsten weights at the back of the head both help with this as well.
Finally this new model has a slightly thicker Pure Roll insert to give a better sound off the face whilst also enhancing feel.
Ping Sigma 2 Putters
The beauty of the Sigma 2 putters is that you can make subtle adjustments to the putter’s length until you settle on what feels the best – there are markings on the shaft to tell you which length you’ve chosen.
Strike a few putts and the soft feel is noticeable. They strike the perfect balance of feeling soft, with a muted sound that’s almost inaudible on very short putts, while feeling solid and still getting the ball rolling with good speed.
The ball-retrieval feature on the Fetch is clever and certainly works, although you are required to push down quite hard into the cup to get the ball to stick.
Scotty Cameron Concept X
Scotty Cameron Concept X Putters Revealed
GM says: The new Scotty Cameron Concept X models, CX-01 and CX-02, blend the visual characteristics of a Newport 2 with the playability of a mallet through high-MOI “wings” that increase stability and forgiveness.
The mid-milled aluminium face is connected via internal screws that compress the vibration dampening material for a soft, solid sound and feel. The sole zone’s anodised and engraved plate contains additional vibration dampening material to help improve feel, as well as increasing MOI and overall balance.
Customisable, removable heel and toe weights enhance stability while increasing the face’s sweet spot.
Toulon Design
GM Says: Coming under the Odyssey umbrella, Toulon Design putters are a premium line that features seven models – five blades (Madison, Austin, Columbus, Long Island and San Diego) and two face-balanced mallets (Memphis and Indianapolis) said to benefit from the best materials, craftsmanship, visual appeal and technology. One of the key visible features is the new Deep Diamond Mill face pattern, precision-milled into the face of each soft 303 stainless steel head. This pattern channels impact vibration away from your ears to produce a slightly softer, yet still crisp, solid sound with good feel.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X
Scotty Cameron Phantom X Putters Revealed
GM says: Replacing the Futura line family from Scotty Cameron comes the new Phantom X putters which are said to be his most technically advanced models ever. Featuring a multi material construction, all the putters have precision milled solid aluminium faces which are integrated with 303 stainless steel heads containing enhanced vibration dampening technology.
Cameron himself said; “This product is so much faster looking, and taken to the next level, that it needed a new name. It’s a major leap in performance. We’ve designed a variety of flange setups, alignment options and shaft bends to offer mallet players more models to choose from.
“I was inspired by Tour players who’ve asked for slightly smaller profiles with more alignment options and solid face construction.”
Odyssey Exo Collection
GM says: One of Odyssey’s most striking lines is the Exo series of putters. Each head is precision-milled, with a weight-saving aluminium red section contrasting with a milled black stainless steel body that increases in MOI for greater stability on strikes across the face. At impact, an all-new White Hot Microhinge Insert – a slightly firmer Tour-developed insert with an identical feel to the Tour’s original White Hot insert – imparts excellent roll thanks to Microhinge Technology we saw on the O-Works range which we have included below.
TaylorMade TP Black Copper Collection
TaylorMade TP Black Copper Collection Review
GM says: The four models in the range – the full–toe-hang Soto, Juno, Ardmore 3 and face-balanced Mullen 2 – have gone through a special plating and hand-polishing process to produce a darker finish with copper accents along the edges. A polymer insert for soft feel and 45° angled grooves improve the roll. The putters are available in 34” or 35” shaft lengths.
The SuperStroke Pistol GT 1.0 is a welcome addition – it enhanced both feel and club-face control during the stroke – and the face insert provided consistent performance on centred and slightly errant strikes.
It’s a shame that alternative sole weights aren’t available in Europe to fine-tune the feel of the putters to suit different tempos, but that said, the standard weighting felt stable and well balanced to us.

Ping Vault 2.0
Ping Vault 2.0 Putters Unveiled
GM Says: These 100% benefit from a new custom-weighting system that helps you personalise your swingweight and feel. The new system provides sole weight options in steel (standard weight head), tungsten (15g heavier) and aluminum (15g lighter) so you can match a model to your balance preferences. Precision-milled TR grooves aid consistent speeds across the putter face. Alongside the three sole weight options are three premium finish options – Stealth, Platinum or Copper – and six different heads.
Evnroll ER Series
GM Says: Five models had been added to the popular ER range back in 2018, and the brand have once again added to the award winning line of putters introducing four more. They are the ER1TS which features the same head-shape and style than the ER1 but has an additional hosel that shifts the shaft an inch in front of the face, the ER2.2, the black ER5B, and finally the ER8.3 flow neck Players Mallet. They all feature unique milled faces engineered to deliver performance across the entire hitting area to increase accuracy and dispersion.

Bettinardi Studio Stock Series
Boasting a Mercury Grey finish for a confidence-inspiring look at address, the new Studio Stock Series incorporates F.I.T (Feel Impact Technology) Face milling, where material is removed from the face in order to produce a softer feel at impact. Available in a variety of shapes including an Arm lock and centre-shafted options.
Bettinardi BB-Series
The latest BB range features a striking new look with a ‘stealth’ matte-black finish that reduces glare. The new Super-Fly Mill face milling features on all four new BB models and offers a responsive feel at impact. It’s designed for players looking for consistent speed and feel and we certainly think it delivers this objective.
All Bettinardi putters are milled from a single piece of proprietary blend soft carbon steel. This attention to detail helps Bettinardi consistently deliver a great feel across the face.
Odyssey O-Works
GM Says: New for 2018 are 12 O-Works Black putters and six additional O-Works Red head shapes, all of which feature Microhinge Face Insert Technology that helps impart more topspin at impact for an earlier, truer roll. The new shapes include the Jailbird Mini and #1 Wide S. The new Black and Red ranges also feature new ‘toe-down’ mallets designed to naturally rotate like a blade to appeal to golfers with arcing strokes who have historically struggled for consistency with face-balanced mallets.
