Galvin Green Apollo

Remember how grim the weather was last winter? It seemed like the rain would never stop falling. If your course was lucky enough to stay open for at least some of the off season, you will have needed to equip yourself with a decent waterproof jacket to combat the inevitable downpours.

Editor’s Choice 2020

Galvin Green’s waterproofs are some of the best in the business and the new Apollo might just be the best the Swedish brand has produced to date.

One key addition for 2020 is that of front pockets. It might seem trivial, but front pockets add a surprising level of convenience during a round – when they’re not there, you certainly miss them!

They are soft inside and manage to stay close to your torso when not in use, which is crucial in not getting in the way when making a swing. Plus, they have zips so you can store items without worrying about them falling out.

Not only is the Apollo jacket Gore-Tex, which keeps the rain at bay and lets sweat escape, but it is also Paclite, so the material is incredibly thin. This allows it to fold down compactly inside your bag and be easily combined with other layers underneath.

The fit is excellent, with an elasticated drawstring at the waist and Velcro cuffs creating a snug, tailored fit. The other thing to note is the styling. I think Galvin Green has nailed it on the Apollo. It will be recognizable as a Galvin Green product from the adjacent fairway and should appeal to a wide range of tastes. Modern, smart and a little in your face without going over the top.

If you’re thinking of playing a little more all-year round and don’t want to be caught out by the weather, the Apollo has become the stand-out choice.
