Inside The Open Shop At Royal Birkdale
Record crowds of around 225,000 are expected at Royal Birkdale this week for the Open and a large contingent will be leaving with a souvenir or two to mark their experience at the world’s oldest golf tournament.
The shop, situated in the spectator village, is ginormous, with Open-logoed items from caps to hats to magnets to headcovers to…basically anything you can imagine.
There are even Open teddy bears.
It is the first thing you see once you’re inside the gates at Birkdale, and whether you plan to buy something or not, it’s very difficult to resist the urge to not go in and have a browse.
The Open Shop’s best seller is the Open pin flag, which is perfect for those who like to seek out autographs from their favourite players.

Another huge seller is the cap, which comes in a number of different colours and materials, made by the brand Ahead Headwear.
New for this year are Hugo Boss, sponsor to 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson, who are very prominent in the shop with logoed clothing.
