Mizuno RB Tour
Mizuno’s fine reputation for crafting some of the game’s best forged irons goes way back. In recent years, however, the Japanese brand has been leaving its mark in other categories, including the golf ball market.
Its MP ball line was launched in Japan a number of years ago, so this isn’t totally new ground for Mizuno. In fact, a faster moving tour ball is something it has been planning for almost 16 years. For a large period of this time, its key piece of technology has been the focus of wind tunnel testing at Mizuno’s MT (Mizuno Technics) test facility. Testing complete, this season’s two premium balls – the RB Tour and RB Tour X – are a first global offering from the company. It’s a significant move from a company with over a hundred years’ experience in manufacturing sporting goods.
Key technology
The RB Tour replaces the MP line-up, and this key piece of technology concerns the dimple pattern. Both four-piece balls feature the new drag-reducing Cone Profile Dimple (C-Dimple), which creates more trigger points to keep fast-flowing air close to the ball’s surface. Less drag means golfers can get better ball speed, whilst it also helps performance in the wind by strengthening trajectory. In addition, they also have a high-traction urethane cover for a soft and responsive feel around the greens, something better players demand.
RB Tour or RB Tour X?
The RB Tour offers low driver spin for downward attack angles, while the RB Tour X offers mid/low driver spin for flat to upward attack angles.
“Our irons finally met their match” is one strapline you might hear from the brand. It’s time for you to judge. If you’re considering a ball change, Mizuno’s new premium balls certainly warrant a try.
