Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy today announced he has chosen to sign an equipment deal with TaylorMade, starting this week at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
The World No.2 will eventually use 14 TaylorMade clubs and the TP5x golf ball as he prepares to add the unofficial fifth major to his illustrious trophy collection.

Since Nike announced that they would no longer make golf equipment last August, Rory has tested numerous brands and different types of clubs and balls.
Crucial to McIlroy’s decision was the performance of his golf ball, particularly in windy conditions, something he was critical of after finishing T-7 at the Masters.
In the new TaylorMade TP5x ball, McIlroy claims to have noticed an improved trajectory that will give him better, more consistent iron performance, especially into the wind.
“I always had it in my head that the more spin I could get with a golf ball, the better,” McIlroy revealed speaking to PGATour.com. “But obviously that was working against me. I didn’t have anything in my head at that time, just sort of wanting to find the best equipment. So we got on the TrackMan and I started hitting this TP5x golf ball and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness.’

“It’s always windy down here and I could just see from the flight that the ball was going through the wind and doing exactly what I wanted it to do. At that point I sort of felt like I probably should have given that ball more thought when I started testing new stuff at the beginning of the year.”
After testing a variety of driver heads, lofts, shafts, swingweights and adjustability settings, McIlroy eventually settled on a 9.5° 2017 TaylorMade M2 driver (it’s no wonder given the numbers below) and two TaylorMade M2 Tour fairway woods, liking how easy they were to turn over compared to his previous product as well as the versatility and turf interaction.

Fairway Woods: 2017 TaylorMade M2 Tour, 13.5° with a MCG Tensei CK Blue 90TX shaft; 2017 TaylorMade M2 Tour Fairway, 19°, Fujikura Composites Pro P95X shaft.
Irons: TaylorMade P750 Tour Proto Irons (3-4-iron), True Temper Project X 7.0 shafts. P700 “Rors Proto” Irons (5-9-iron), True Temper Project X 7.0 shafts.
Wedges: TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedges, 48°, 54° and 60°, True Temper Project X 6.5 shafts.
Putter: Odyssey Works Prototype.
Ball: TaylorMade TP5x.
Rory McIlroy first made the switch to TaylorMade woods and a Scotty Cameron putter back at the DP World Tour Championship in November.
He then changed his setup again for 2017, swapping his TaylorMade and Nike equipment for Titleist and Callaway, switching to the Callaway Great Big Bertha Epic Sub Zero driver along with prototype Callaway Apex MB irons, Titleist Vokey SM6 wedges and the new Titleist Pro V1x ball.
