Rory McIlroy What’s In The Bag?

Here we take a look at the equipment Rory McIlroy has in his bag.

The four-time major winner signed with TaylorMade in 2017 and currently plays a full bag of TaylorMade equipment, including all 14 clubs and his ball.

Rory had been using the M3 driver however, for 2019, he has just switched it out to the brand new TaylorMade M5.

The M5 has new Speed Injected Twist Face technology which is where tuning resin is injected into the face to make sure they conform to USGA and R&A guidelines.

Rory is regularly one of the longest hitters on Tour, last year for example he led the PGA Tour in driving distance with 319.7 yards and he will look to continue that play with his new equipment.

Dustin Johnson is another top player who has switched to the M5 driver citing its adjustability as a huge factor.

Rory had been switching between the M3 and M4 fairway woods throughout 2018 but right now it appears as if he has switched to the new TaylorMade models.

At the moment he has both the M6 and M5 in the bag as a 3-wood and strong 5-wood respectively.

He has been using a TaylorMade P790 UDI 2 iron with a Project X HZRDUS 105 6.5 graphite shaft.

McIlroy plays with a mixed set of irons with a TaylorMade P750 3 and 4 iron and P730 Rors Proto irons from 5-9. They’re fitted with Project X 7.0 shafts. (Pictured below)

The 29-year-old is carrying three TaylorMade wedges in 48°, 54° and 60° lofts which are machine-milled to his personal specification.

The 48° is a Milled Grind version whereas the 54° and 60° are both HI-TOE wedges. All three have Project X (6.5) shafts.

Rory put a new flat stick in the bag at Bay Hill for his Arnold Palmer Invitational victory.

He used a TaylorMade TP Collection Black Copper Soto putter with a slant neck at Bay Hill.

However his putting tribulations have been well documented and he switched to a TP Black Copper Collection Juno putter. Right now it appears he has switched to a 2019 TaylorMade Spider Prototype which he put into play at the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Rory is now using the 2019 TaylorMade TP5 ball.
