Aces high as evergreen Jimenez captures second win of the PGA Champions season

Miguel Angel Jimenez chalked up an impressive two hole-in-ones en route to winning the PGA Champions Cologuard Classic at Tucson National in Arizona.

The 58-year-old Spaniard started the final round with a two-shot lead and got off to a birdie-eagle start. Bernhard Langer, who won the previous week’s event to become the oldest winner in PGA TOUR Champions history, cut the lead to three with a birdie on the par-5 12th, but Jimenez followed with one of his own in the group behind.

Jimenez ended any hope of a late rally from the German with an ace on the 178-yard par-3 14th to match the one he had at the 7th hole during the opening round. He then closed with four pars for a 65 and an 18-under total win by four shots from Langer and Woody Austin.

Asked what was helping him find such a rich vein of form, Jimenez said “My irons. Hitting from tee-to-green is probably the key to my game at this moment. The putter has also started working, but the key to my game is tee-to-green.”
