There is no better way to bet on golf than the Fitzdares Fantasy Golf competition, which is being run for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, which starts on Thursday (July 20). The competition is now in its fifth year, and each time the prize pot has grown significantly.
To play, you simply pick five players and one reserve to form your Fantasy Open teams. Each team’s cumulative prize money will be its score, and you can follow your team’s progress, as the putts drop, on the live leaderboard. At this year’s Masters, Fitzdares saw a record pot of £86,200, with the winner banking over £38,000 – not a bad weekend’s work!
Here’s what Colin, runner-up in the Masters’ dramatic finish, thought of the action: “To be in the lead in a major tournament, with one hole to play, is everybody’s dream and your competition has enabled me to do that. Perhaps next time, like Garcia, I will eventually win a major!”
Teams are £100 each, or if you enter four teams you get one free. Players can also earn free teams by registering and sharing the competition. The top 18 teams get paid, and 45% of the total pot goes to the winner. Entries close at 7am on Thursday.
