Sam Horsfield has withdrawn from the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team for ‘personal reasons’. His place in the side will be taken by first reserve Ewen Ferguson.
No further details have been released at this time as the reasons for the 18 year old Manchester-born Horsfield has decided not to play in the match, which is being played at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club from September 12-13.
Ferguson won the Boys Amateur Championship in 2013 and became the first player to hold that title along with the Scottish Boys and Scottish Boys Stroke Play trophies which he won last year. The 19-year-old from Bearsden in Scotland won the Scottish Champion of Champions event and the Craigmillar Park Open this year and achieved top five finishes at the Irish Open Amateur and Scottish Stroke Play championships.
Bradley Moore,17, from Kedleston Park in England, becomes the first reserve.
