Koepka and Ancer join LIV Golf Series

Brooks Koepka is set to quit the PGA Tour and join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational series.

The four-time major winner has removed all references to the PGA Tour from his social media profiles and will tee it up in the second event at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon, USA, next week.

The 32-year-old dual US Open and PGA Championship winner is set to become the latest major champion from America to join the series, following Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson.

Abraham Ancer, currently ranked No.20 in the world, will also be joining the LIV series next week. The top-ranked Mexican golfer in the world, Ancer has three professional victories and 36 career top-10 finishes, including 19 top-10 performances since 2019. Having been ranked as high as No.11, Ancer competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has also been selected to compete in numerous international team events.

Abraham Ancer will join the LIV Golf Series for the second event

“Abraham Ancer has been a rising star who’s established himself as one of the world’s top golfers in a very short period of time. He is a consistent contender which continues to elevate our competition,” said Greg Norman, LIV Golf CEO. “Abraham’s global reach and star power in Mexico and Latin America makes him a great fit for LIV Golf, which is committed to growing the sport on a global scale, particularly in new and emerging markets. We are thrilled to have him onboard and look forward to having him in the field in Portland and beyond.”

It was announced earlier this month any players involved in the LIV Series would be indefinitely suspended from the PGA Tour. A letter confirming that was sent to PGA Tour members by commissioner Jay Monahan shortly after the opening LIV Golf tournament got under way at Centurion Club in Hertfordshire on June 9.

The DP World Tour is still yet to make an official announcement on its stance on its members playing the series, although its strategic alliance with the PGA Tour means that it will be under pressure to follow the PGA Tour’s lead.
