The owners of two golf clubs in Berkshire have told local residents that their sites are open for exercise use during Coronavirus lockdown.
Posting on the Facebook group ‘Caversham Matters’, a statement announced that the perimeters of Reading Golf Club and Caversham Heath Golf Club can be used by walkers and joggers only as part of the daily exercise allowed during the pandemic.
The post reads: “Please remember the courses are still private property, and the members have offered this to help assist with social distancing in these challenging times and the courses are not public parks, so please we respectfully remind all to keep exercise continuous. Please stay clear of all greens and bunkers. Always bag and remove dog mess from site and take it home; and respect our staff and property at all times.”
Caversham Heath chairman Colin Reed said: “These are unprecedented times and we would like to make our land available to residents for essential exercise. We will continue to offer this facility during our closure as long as we can, and as long as our instructions are fully observed. The ability to get some fresh air and exercise will be the salvation for many and our board and members are keen to do what we can to support everybody.”
Grateful residents showed their thanks on Facebook. One said: “We were there this morning, it was beautiful. Thank you so much!” Another added: “Thank you so much for allowing us on the course. Had some fantastic walks with my daughter last couple days. Listening to the wildlife with very little background noise has been so therapeutic. Can’t thank you enough!”
