Tiger Woods is to play in next week PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational next week, marking his first tournament in seven months.
The 15-time major winner, who has slipped to 1,283th in the world rankings. played just three competitive events – amounting to nine competitive rounds – in 2022, the last at July’s Open Championship at St Andrews, when he missed the cut. In December he competed in the exhibition event The Match, and also at the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie.
“I’m ready to play an actual PGA Tour event next week,” the 47-year-old tweeted before the Los Angeles tournament, which will feature many of the world’s top 30 players, including world no.1 Rory McIlroy.
The Genesis Invitational, which Woods is hosting from 16-19 February at Riviera Country Club, is the 15-time major champions’s first non-major PGA Tour start since the Zozo Championship in 2020.
