SURVEY REVEALS INCREASE IN ROUNDS PLAYED

A survey has revealed that despite the negative signals about golf participation in the UK, the number of rounds played at the back end of 2014 actually rose compared to the two previous years. Gleneagles lined up for £200m sale

Gleneagles, the Highland venue for last year’s Ryder Cup, is to be put up for sale after owner Diageo announced it had received ‘numerous expressions of interest’ since the matches took place last September. The five-star Perthshire resort, which has three golf courses and 232 guest rooms, could fetch more than £200 million. Sky to cover Open from 2017

The R&A has confirmed that is has awarded rights to live TV coverage of the Open Championship to Sky from 2017-21.  The new deal, worth a reported £10 million a year to the R&A, brings an end to a 60-year relationship with the BBC, who will now be left to show a two-hour highlights package of each day of the championship from 8pm-10pm in the evenings, although live radio coverage will still be available on Radio 5.
