At its Congress held on 13 April 2008 in Venice, in the presence of 44 member nations out of 48, the European Weightlifting Federation elected its office-bearers for the next four-year cycle.

As of 14th April 2008, the European Championships will take place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, providing qualification opportunity for 5 countries for men and 3 countries for women to the Beijing Olympic Games.
