ADAM Milner partied on the pitch when Wakefield relegated Castleford – now the boot is very much on the other foot.
And if the Tigers win tonight’s derby, you can be sure the regulars at the Waggon and Horses in Stanley, West Yorkshire, will know about it over a pint of lemonade.
Milner, who has cemented a place as one of Castleford’s main strike weapons, was a Wakefield fan as a lad and was ballboy when Trinity defeated their nearest and not-so-dearest 29-17 in a sudden death shoot-out in 2006.
And one of the people celebrating on the Belle Vue turf that day will tonight be looking to make fans, including his father and several other family members, miserable.
“I remember staying on the pitch celebrating with the rest of the Wakefield fans,” revealed Milner, who then was a 14-year-old on Trinity’s scholarship, to SunSport for the first time.
“I was a Wakefield fan and would go to the majority of the games. A lot of my family and friends follow them too and they give me stick every time Cas play them!
“I don’t think dad would admit it but he’s got a soft spot for Wakefield. Like me, he was a Wakefield fan when he was younger but tonight, if he was given the choice, he’d probably stick with Cas because of me.”
Milner, who can play hooker or loose forward, was released by Wakefield as a kid then went to Bradford before opportunity at Castleford came up.
The 25-year-old still lives about 10 minutes from Trinity’s Belle Vue ground and should Daryl Powell’s side come out on top, his local may get an early visitor tomorrow.
“I don’t go in after a loss and I won’t be too happy if it happens tonight,” he admitted. “But if we win, I’ll definitely be in there, only drinking lemonade!”
