WYCOMBE have won the race to sign Adebayo Akinfenwa – thanks to boss Gareth Ainsworth’s love of What’s App.
The giant striker – nicknamed The Beast – helped win AFC Wimbledon promotion last term by scoring in the League Two play-off final against Plymouth.
He had already been told his Dons contract would not been renewed and begged new managers to “hit me up on What’s App.”
And Ainsworth, who is a keen user of the social media chat service, has done exactly that to bring the veteran 34-year-old in on a one-year contract.
Akinfenwa is one of the most iconic players in the game due to his 16-stone frame.
The veteran striker has scored 143 goals throughout his career, taking in spells with the likes of Gillingham, Northampton and Barry Town.

And Wycombe boss Ainsworth admits he’s delighted to land a striker of Akinfenwa’s talent this summer, telling the club’s official website: “Bayo has had a phenomenal career and still has plenty to offer, not just on the pitch but also in the changing room because of his character and real leadership qualities.
“He’s kept himself fit over the summer and joins the squad at a perfect time just as we’re heading out to France for a pre-season training camp which will help everyone get to know each other better and enable us to put more plans in place for the year ahead.”
