Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scores against Manchester City as Arsene Wenger’s day gets even worse

ARSENE WENGER’S day went from bad to worse after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a stunner against Manchester City.

After a humiliating 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth, the last thing Gunners fans wanted to see was a former player stun the champions elect.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain did just that as he drove towards the area before beating Ederson with a perfectly placed drive.

Fans were quick to criticise the decision to let the midfielder – who was often played out of position at the Emirates – leave over the summer.

But in a silver lining for the Frenchman, Ox’s strike could help the Reds end City’s unbeaten run – protecting the Invincibles’ legacy.

Victory would see Liverpool climb above Chelsea into third, while Arsenal sit sixth after a poor run.

Earlier today, Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe scored late as the Cherries come from a goal down to sink Wenger’s hapless Gunners.

Arsene Wenger left Alexis Sanchez out of the squad as the Chilean prepares to make a move to Manchester – with United now strong favourites to beat City to his signature.

And Sanchez is leaving behind a side sadly lacking in star quality and now five points off the Champions League places after taking just two points from the last available nine.

Hector Bellerin had fired the Gunners in front early in the second half but a disastrous five-minute period for the visitors saw  Wilson equalise and Ibe drill a shot through Petr Cech’s legs.

After last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest, Wenger’s team are now back in familiar crisis mode – with Sanchez surely glad to be deserting this sinking ship.
