Former New Zealand World Cup winner Williams currently plays second row for Parisian side Racing Metro.

The 35-year-old made 75 appearances for the All Blacks, winning the Webb Ellis Trophy in 2011.

He also won three consecutive European cups for Toulon between 2013 and 2015.

Versatile 26-year-old O’Connor has been capped 44 times for Australia and can play full-back, wing, centre or fly-half.

The Wallaby moved to Toulon in 2015 and previously had a spell at London Irish.

French police reportedly spotted the pair handing 200 euros (£170) in cash to drug dealers in exchange for cocaine.

The two players, who were said to be drunk at the time, then attempted to ditch three cocaine patches, which were picked up by investigators.

Another Southern Hemisphere scandal is the last thing rugby needs just a week after Dan Carter was arrested in France for drink driving.

The legendary All Blacks No.10 released a grovelling apology, saying: “I am sure a lot of you have seen the headlines.

“No excuses – I made a massive error of judgement and have let down my club, my fans and most importantly my family.

“I will have to now let the police/court process run its course and face the consequences. I am just glad no one was harmed. Sorry.”
