Alun Rossiter: Great Britain have to channel the spirit of Bobby Moore and Co to win speedway’s World Cup on Saturday evening
GREAT BRITAIN boss Alun Rossiter says his side have to find the spirit of Bobby Moore to win speedway’s World Cup tonight.
The prestigious final is staged at the new National Speedway Stadium on the 50th anniversary of England’s triumph on home soil.
Alun Rossiter wants Tai Woffinden and Co to channel the spirit of 1966
Now Rossiter says that world champ Tai Woffinden and his troops must emulate the class of Moore, Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton.
He said: “Maybe, just maybe, history and fate might be on our side. I certainly hope so. We need to make it more than a coincidence of dates.
“There was obviously something special on that day in 1966. We need to invoke that belief, steel and mettle that Bobby Moore and the boys had at Wembley against Germany.

“I believe we can do it. I have picked what I believe to be the best, most in-form riders and now we have to have belief.
“We need to start well and get a bit of luck. If we can do that, I think we have a chance. It will be tough but then we know that, it’s the World Cup final.
“But it would be great to see Tai being held aloft by his team-mates like that iconic shot of Bobby in 1966.”
