The driver’s helmet can be seen dangling out of the window as the motor was sent into a violent spin – rolling over several times before slamming into the safety netting.

Astonishingly, Mr Bourke, of Corby, Northants, managed to climb out of the wreckage and walk away unhurt.

He was later checked over by paramedics and given the all-clear.

Photographer Pat Cranham said: “It was the fastest part of the circuit and he had already flipped into the air and was rolling when he came into my view.

“The fact that his head was out of the window makes it all the more scary.

“It was absolutely incredible that he got up and walked away. I thought he would be stretchered away at least, but he appeared to be fine.”

Race organisers later confirmed he was unharmed, tweeting: “Great to hear Andrew Bourke is OK after his roll in Quali.”
