Andy Carroll injury: West Ham suffer major blow with striker facing four to six weeks out after picking up knee injury

WEST HAM have been rocked with the news that striker Andy Carroll is facing up to six weeks on the treatment table with a knee injury.

The England striker, whose career has been riddled with injury, is thought to have picked up the problem after making a substitute appearance in Thursday’s Europa League draw against Astra Giurgiu.

It is a massive blow for boss Slaven Bilic after losing record-signing Andre Ayew for four months on his Hammers debut.

Carroll, who impressed in pre-season with an impressive brace against Juventus, played 90 minutes in the opening Premier League clash against Chelsea and was set to play a major part in Bilic’s plans this season.

The 27-year-old target man will now miss the next four to six weeks as West Ham’s injury woes continue.

They have already lost left-back Aaron Cresswell to a serious knee injury, striker Manuel Lanzini and summer signing Sofiane Fehouli who should both be back after the international break.

And Carroll’s injury also ends his chances of earning an England recall under new boss Sam Allardyce.

The Three Lions play Slovakia on 4th September as Allardyce will soon name his squad ahead of his first game in charge.
