ANDY POZZI saw his World Championships medal hopes go up in smoke as he crashed out of the 110 metres hurdles in the semi-finals.
Pozzi was one of Britain’s biggest medal hopes coming into London 2017 – with some believing he had a genuine opportunity to claim gold.
But the 25-year-old saw his dreams come crashing down around him after a mistake on the ninth hurdle cost him a spot in Monday’s final.
Pozzi had led the second heat for most of the race as he battled for one of the two automatic qualification slots available.
But he clipped the penultimate hurdle, costing him vital speed as three of his rivals charged towards the finish around him.
He was eventually swallowed up in a blanket finish that saw him finish fourth – just two hundredths of a second behind winner Shane Brathwaite of Barbados.
And his time of 13.28secs was not good enough for one of the fastest losers spots – ending his hopes of finally making an impact in the Olympic Stadium.
Pozzi said: “It is a run that isn’t good enough. I came here to be in that final and push for the medals.

“I didn’t do that tonight and that is very poor from me.
“I felt like I started behind and then came through really well. I think I just sat on hurdle nine and lost momentum. I just didn’t have enough on the run in.”
Pozzi was part of Team GB at London 2012 but he suffered a hamstring injury jumping the first hurdle and had to pull-up.
