However, having failed to finish in the top three for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year vote, despite being the clear favourite, he has now been snubbed for a New Year honour.

Joshua, who was awarded an MBE in 2012 following his gold medal at the London, has a perfect record of 20 knock outs from 20 fights — with two victories coming in 2017.

In April, he scored the biggest victory of his career so far when he KO’d Klitscko in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley.

The Ukrainian, along with his older brother Vitali, had dominated the heavyweight division for over a decade.

His second fight of the year came in October when he fought Carlos Takam after Kubrat Pulev had pulled out with a shoulder injury.
