Apple line up Raheem Sterling as global ambassador ahead of European Championship in France

Raheem Sterling is close to agreeing a deal to become a global ambassador for tech giant Apple.

The Manchester City star has been lined up to be the figure-head of Apple’s promotional work around the European Championship this summer.

Sterling will earn around £250,000-a-year to join the company’s global sports ambassador rosta that already includes the likes of Serena Williams and Neymar.

But the deal hinges on whether the 21-year-old can return to full fitness in time to be named in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the tournament in France this summer.

Sterling is currently sidelined with a groin strain suffered in the 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester United last month — an injury which at the time was expected to keep him out for eight weeks.

England boss Hodgson is understood to be willing to include the wide-man in his final squad as long as he is fit enough to play at least one of the three friendlies before Euro 2016 begins.
