Arsenal news: Jack Wilshere set to QUIT Gunners and is ‘miles apart’ in negotiations over new contract

JACK WILSHERE will quit Arsenal in the summer — unless the club make him a significantly improved contract offer.

SunSport understands Wilshere’s camp and the club are miles apart in talks despite Gunners boss Arsene Wenger claiming they are progressing well.

And there is NO chance of the disillusioned midfielder, 26, signing the offer which is currently on the table.

Wilshere has been stunned by the Gunners’ insistence that he must take a massive 25 PER CENT cut to his current salary of £120,000 a week if he is going to stay.

Mesut Ozil, 29, received a £200,000-a-week pay rise when he signed his new contract last month.

And new signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are both earning more than double what Wilshere has been offered.

Wenger said this week: “I want Jack to sign very quickly and I am happy to find the pen for him. Talks are progressing but the decision belongs to him and we have to respect that.

“Our desire has been clearly expressed and numbered and, after that, the player has to find satisfaction as well.”

MUCH TO SMILE ABOUT? Arsenal lark around in the snow ahead of Man City game

Fans’ favourite Wilshere is particularly hurt by Arsenal’s stance because he worked hard to prove his fitness after suffering serious injury problems in the past.

He was even ordered to undergo a full medical by the club before they would make him a new offer, a test which he has easily passed.

Wilshere completed his 20th match of the season during Sunday’s Carabao Cup final and has missed only one game through injury.

He is three years younger than both Ozil and Mkhitaryan and two years younger than £60million record-signing Aubameyang.

Wilshere has been at Arsenal since he was a nine-year-old schoolboy and wants to extend his stay — but not on the terms currently offered.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, he will be a free agent in June.

And he is now able to talk to clubs across Europe with other Premier League sides certain to be monitoring the situation.
