The 23-year-old made a promising start at Stuttgart, but fell down the pecking order and has not played for them since December.

With Arsenal’s squad likely to be shaken up with Unai Emery, Asano’s chances of breaking into the squad looked slim.

A spot in the World Cup squad hasn’t been forthcoming for Asano either, he has 16 caps but did not feature in the March friendlies.

A return to first-team action at Hannover 96, who finished 13th in the Bundesliga, should give the youngster the minutes he craves.

When announcing Asano’s arrival on twitter, Hannover said: “He brings a lot of speed to the place.”
