Arsenal ‘to battle Tottenham and Liverpool for PSV wonderkid Steven Bergwijn’

ARSENAL have joined the race to land PSV Eindhoven wonderkid Steven Bergwijn, according to reports.

Bergwijn, 20, broke into the Dutch giants first-team two years ago and his outstanding performances have attracted a host of Premier League clubs.

De Telegraaf in Holland reckon the Gunners face stiff competition from Liverpool, Tottenham, West Ham and Bournemouth for the youngster.

The pacy, two-footed wide-man can operate on both wings and was discarded by Ajax as a kid.

He was immediately snapped up by PSV and helped his club win the Eredivisie title last term.

New Gunners boss Unai Emery is keen to add a winger to his ranks as he looks to overhaul the squad inherited from Arsene Wenger.

Tottenham are long-term admirers of Bergwijn, with boss Mauricio Pochettino wanting another winger, although Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha his top target.

Berwijn has represented his country at Under-17s to U21 level and is contracted at the Philips stadion until 2021.

He is expected to go on to become a full international as the Dutch rebuild after missing out on next summer’s World Cup finals.

Liverpool have kept an eye on Bergwijn’s progress in Holland and scouted him nearly every week following the Eredivisie winter break.

But Arsenal’s interest has been stepped up as the exciting Dutch kid could slot straight into the Emirates first-team after the January departure of Theo Walcott.
