Arsenal transfer news: Mesut Ozil held secret talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce

ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil held secret transfer talks with Fenerbahce last summer.

That is the shock claim for Turkish media outlet Hurriyet, who claim the forward travelled to Istanbul for discussions over a potential switch to the Super Lig giants.

The meeting, which reportedly took place within the 17 hours Ozil was in the capital city, was kept secret.

SunSport reported back in April of the ace’s desire to join Fener within the next three years.

Arsenal have been attempting to negotiate a new deal with the winger for months, but with terms still yet to be agreed, the latest report will be of worrying concern for Arsene Wenger.

It has been claimed that the German World Cup winner wants a huge pay rise and wages of £250k a week to commit his future to the Emirates outfit.

Despite the talks with Fenerbahce, Ozil did stay at Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal and has enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign.

His six goals, including a Champions League hat-trick against Ludogorets, in 11 appearances has only strengthened his cause and increased fan pressure on the Gunners to push a new deal over the line for the ace.

Wenger and the club are eager to hand Ozil a bumper new contract, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis hinting at last week’s AGM that an agreement is close.
