Arsenal will now wear white shorts in Carabao Cup final against Manchester City after u-turn on red ones… and here’s why

ARSENAL will not be forced to wear red shorts for only the second time in 40 years in the Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners were initially told by EFL chiefs to wear their alternative shorts as their home kit would clash with Manchester City’s.

But now it seems the decision has been overturned and Arsene Wenger’s team will be using their normal kit for the massive clash at Wembley.

Arsenal were forced to wear red shorts for the first time in four decades on Boxing Day against West Brom.

That game ended in controversy as a Jay Rodriguez penalty levelled the game after Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring.

Prior to this campaign, the last time the FA Cup holders wore red shorts was against QPR back on April 11, 1978, a fixture the Hoops won 2-1.

Arsenal fans have every right to be confused why they are the club having to change their kit.

City wore blue shorts in last season’s FA Cup semi-final against the Gunners, as well as in a Premier League 2 fixture between the two side’s last August.

SPOT ON Does the Carabao Cup final go to extra-time and penalties or just penalties?

And with the bad result the last time they wore the shorts in December, some fans had superstitions that it would harm their luck.

Arsenal’s attempt at beating top-of-the-league City for the first trophy of the season takes on place on Sunday at 4.30pm.
