Arsene Wenger: Arsenal boss refuses to state whether new boys Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez will start against Southampton

ARSENE WENGER has said he has not yet decided whether to give debuts to new signings Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez.

The two players were bought by the Arsenal boss a week ago – for a combined £52million – after months of speculation.

But the French manager decided he would not yet reveal whether they would make their Premier League bows from the start against Southampton on Saturday.

He said: “[Mustafi and Perez] have adapted very quickly in training, but the real test is the games.

“We will see.

“They have shown their quality in training.

“I haven’t decided yet [whether they will start], I have to decide.”

Wenger then went on to praise the pair.

He added: “Mustafi is young but he already has lots of experience, international experience.

“Perez is versatile, he can play on the flank and through the middle of course.

“Not only can he score goals but also provide a good number of assists.

“He is versatile and has some interesting qualities.”

In his pre-match press conference, Wenger also said that Jack Wilshere was “world class” – despite sending him on loan to Bournemouth.

Wenger also revealed that Aaron Ramsey is the only player who will definitely miss the Southampton game.

Alexis Sanchez could be rested after he made a long trip back from Chile duty in midweek.

Wenger also had a word on Eddie Howe, the Bournemouth boss having been linked with replacing Wenger this week.

He said: “I don’t know who will take my job one day.

“I don’t know who will take your job next.

“These are questions that are impossible to answer. I wish the best to the guy that comes after me.”
