THE Sun is today demanding a heroes’ homecoming for our record-breaking Rio stars after plans for a victory parade were “binned”.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and his team failed to organise a celebration in the capital for our returning Olympians, despite similar events being held after the Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

Sporting legends Sir Matthew Pinsent and Amir Khan are now leading calls for City Hall killjoys to mark Team GB’s most successful away Olympics.
Four-time rowing gold medallist Sir Matthew, 45, tweeted the Mayor direct, saying: “Is this true about the Team GB parade? Binned apparently.’’
Boxing hero Amir, 29, who joined the parade after his silver at Athens 2004, said: “The current Olympic stars from Rio 2016 should not be denied the same opportunity to make lifelong memories.”
Badminton ace Gail Emms, 39, another silver medallist in Athens, said the parades helped to recognise minority sports athletes’ “moment of glory”.
The first parade in 2004, after Team GB won just 30 medals, included a reception for squad members with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
And up to a million people hit the streets in 2012 as athletes were treated to flybys from RAF jets, helicopters and the Red Arrows.
The Mayor of London’s office said they are “speaking to partner organisations about the best way to mark the achievements”.
But a Team GB spokesman told The Sun: “We haven’t received an invitation to be part of a parade.”
