Ashes 2017: Five moments from day two as Tom Curran takes his first Test wicket and Alastair Cook finds his form

ENGLAND hauled themselves back into the Fourth Test after a brilliant effort with bat and ball on day two.

Stuart Broad led the charge in the morning session, taking four wickets as Australia collapsed to 327 all out, before Alastair Cook hit a brilliant unbeaten century to show that his Test career is far from over.

Here are five key moments from a brilliant day’s cricket at the MCG.

Curr blimey

TOM CURRAN took the wicket of David Warner on 99 yesterday – but was denied after overstepping by a matter of centimetres.

No matter though, as the fearless debutant came roaring in early doors and produced an excellent spell to the set Steve Smith.

But it was a short, wide delivery that did for the Aussie skipper, chopping on to his own stumps.

Curran didn’t care – but did wait for the umpire to confirm it was a legal delivery before celebrating.

Jim the mood

JIMMY ANDERSON just can’t stop breaking records.

Not content with being England’s all-time leading wicket taker, he’s now eclipsed the great Curtly Ambrose.

Tim Paine played well for his quickfire 24, but once again chopped on – setting England on the way to a brilliant opening session.

Chef back in business

ALASTAIR COOK has endured a torrid series – but came good on day two infront of an adoring travelling support.

And this was the shot that announced his return to form.

A poetic cover drive, splitting the field.

He went on to complete an epic hundred, brought up by a flurry of runs in a final, chaotic over. Brilliant stuff.

Lyon does it again

NATHAN LYON has made a habit of taking incredible catches in this series.

Well he’s back at it again.

Stoneman started his innings well enough – we saw some lovely drives – but shovelled this leading edge straight back to the diving GOAT.

Taken, Gary.

Just a feather

JAMES VINCE played nicely in a little cameo – but that won’t cut the mustard for a Test standard No3.

After another of those fantastic cover drives, he gets stuck on the crease and the finger goes up.

They have a conflab, decide not to review – but replays show a faint edge.

Oops.
