Aston Villa reach agreement with HMRC as owner Dr Tony Xia speaks out over ‘difficult two weeks’


ASTON VILLA have announced they have reached an agreement with HMRC over their financial crisis.

While Villans owner Dr Tony Xia took to social media to thank fans for their support after the club endured a turbulent two weeks.

SunSport revealed yesterday that the 2015 FA Cup runners-up reached an agreement over their outstanding £4.2million tax bill.

In an official statement, Villa said on their website: “Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with HMRC and the club will continue to fulfil its obligations.

“The club can also announce that there are no insolvency practitioners or administration advisors working with the club.

“Owner and Chairman Dr Tony Xia would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank supporters during this difficult and unsettling time and reassure them plans are now being put in place to move the club forward.”

While Xia said on Twitter: “It has been very difficult 2 (sic) weeks as I hinted earlier I was almost heartbroken by something.

“Tried my best to keep beloved AV move forward. Thanks for all ppl (sic) standing together going through the difficult time.

Amid the financial crisis, Villa suspended CEO Keith Wyness after the club received a winding up order for missing a tax payment.

A host of players have been linked with a move from Villa Park this summer to ease the pressure at the club.

Southampton are looking to raid the cash-strapped side for duo Keinan Davis and Andre Green for £4m.

While Leicester have been linked with a £40m move for star man Jack Grealish.
