Ball boy flattened at the French Open in collision with tennis star Damir Dzumhur

BOSNIAN tennis star Damir Dzumhur floored a ball boy in the course of unsuccessfully trying to knock No 3 seed Sascha Zverev out of the French Open as he lost 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.

During the third game of the fourth set, Dzumhur jogged from the baseline, looking upwards, to catch a stray ball.

But he had not noticed one of the young “ramasseurs” doing exactly the same and the pair collided.

The ball boy went down hard on the clay, before being helped to his feet by Dzumhur and some colleagues.

The 26-year-old dropped the first set 6-2 against the highly-talented Zverev, who has been tipped to win a maiden Grand Slam at Roland Garros this fortnight.

But the 26th seed fought back to take the second and third sets 6-3 and 6-4 to take him one set from a Grand Slam fourth round for the first time.

Zverev clung on, though, forcing the fourth set to a tie break which he won 7-3 and with that took the match into a fifth and final set, which he won 7-5.

Dominic Thiem is in the same quarter as Zverev at the bottom of the draw and is on course to meet the 21-year-old German in the final eight with Novak Djokovic a possible semi-final opponent.

There were mixed fortunes in Paris yesterday for Britain’s men as Kyle Edmund progressed to the third round.

But Cameron Norrie’s tournament came to an end at the hands of French 15th seed Lucas Pouille, who won in four sets.
