But Sport insist Barcelona see him the ideal player to take the club forward.
He could be a direct replacement for either Gerard Pique or Andres Iniesta, who are both nearing the end of their careers.
While, Guardiola is keen for a reunion with his former player, and City could be set to make a summer move.
Kimmich gave a slight hint he would lean towards Barcelona should he leave the Bundesliga, with an Instagram post following the Catalans’ sensational comeback victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
He posted a picture of the players celebrating, along with the captions: “Nothing is impossible”, “Always believe in yourself” and “respect”.
Kimmich joined from RB Leipzig in 2015 and soon established himself as a first team regular.
This season, he has scored seven goals in all competitions — including two in a 5-0 victory over Rostov in the Champions League.
