Valdes, who has won the Champions League three times in addition to the World Cup and European Championship, is expected to launch his new app on the iOS App Store and Android Play Store soon.

It is still in the beta phase of development.

The 34-year-old Boro keeper posted a video online on Monday evening explaining how it works.

Valdes said: “We think that in the dating world, you can feel attracted to someone on the bus, the metro, in a cafe, or in a college or club.

“But, you don’t necessarily have the courage to approach them and break the ice. Therefore you need this app.

“I think there’s a tool that we need for this and by taking advantage of our mobile phones we can create a visual code based on a colour and on the message ‘Hola’. Let’s show you how it works.”

At this point Valdes shows his smartphone to the camera and launches the app.

The goalie says: “Here I’m on the app and the system says ‘Hola’ and gives me a brown-orange colour. The system is giving me a completely random colour.

“Then, I show this message to the person I want to start a conversation with and that person can search for me and my profile thanks to the colour I’ve shown them. So then, we can start a conversation in a private channel.”

Valdes has endured a difficult start to his Riverside career since moving to the North East in the summer after being hindered through injury.

He silenced his doubters and looked to be back to his best last Saturday, producing a fine display to help Boro draw 0-0 at Arsenal.
