Barcelona star Andres Iniesta reveals he will announce decision on his future this week amid interest from China


ANDRES INIESTA has announced he will reveal his future plans this week as he continues to be linked with a switch to China in the summer.

The Barcelona captain is reportedly close to sealing a switch to join Chongqing Dangdai Ligan with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirming he has an offer on the table.

Iniesta, 33, netted in the 5-0 rout against Sevilla last night as the Blaugrana claimed their fourth successive Copa del Rey triumph.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo following the epic victory, Iniesta said: “This week I will make the decision public. There are many emotions, many feelings, many years.

“I’m happy to be able to give this image and the title. Today the people deserved this. I am happy personally and at a collective level.

“There are very strong emotions, the affection and respect that people have for me is something that I am very much grateful for. As I said, I will try to add this cup to the league.

“This week I will speak about the decision I make, as a person and as an athlete. The affection the people have shown me is priceless.”

Iniesta signed a contract for life at the Nou Camp earlier on in the season, but his deal allows him to leave on a free each summer should he seek a new challenge.

Speaking of the World Cup winner’s future, Bartomeu said: “I know that Iniesta has an offer, but Barca is the club of his life and he has a lifetime contract.

“We have the best in the world who is [Lionel] Messi, but Iniesta marks a time in the history of Barca and football.”

Iniesta has again had a stellar campaign for Barca, featuring in 39 games in all competitions – netting twice and chalking up three assists as his side sit top of La Liga.

He revealed in the aftermath of the shock defeat to Roma that he could have played his last Champions League game for the Catalan giants.
