Boateng, who once plied his trade with Manchester City in an unsuccessful spell, has a number of tattoos on his body.

On his back he has the face of his daughter Lamia, as well as 21 names of members of his family tree.

He also has the outline of his father’s homeland of Ghana on one of his arms.

But the latest additions will certainly grab the attention.

The “happy and sad masks” refer to comedy and tragedy in theatre, and can be traced back to Greek tradition. Actors and actresses would wear the masks to show the varying emotions on stage.

Boateng is a World Cup winner, and has a footballing brother, Kevin Prince Boateng, who currently turns out for Spanish outfit Las Palmas.

Like Jerome, he too is a big fan of body art and sports a number of eye-catching inkings.

Earlier this year SunSport dissected each of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s tattoos, that cover most of his upper body.

He has 14 different inkings in total.
