The Bayern Munich star sustained a knock to his head after a challenge with defender Tony Jantschke and was forced to withdraw.

James’ head injury was from a collision with Jantscke’s shoulder.

The midfielder received treatment but was taken off at half-time as a precaution and replaced with youngster Marco Friedl who made his Bundesliga debut.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said: “James most likely suffered a mild concussion after the collision.

“He didn’t even know the score at half-time. But we have to wait for the diagnosis of the doctors.”Despite not remembering his team were down 2-0 at half-time, there were no immediate signs of serious injury to the Colombia international although Jantschke was taken to hospital.
