Wagner, 30, has penned a two-and-a-half year contract and will officially become a Bayern player on January 1.

A Munich native, the forward came through the youth ranks with the club but left in 2008 for Duisburg after making just four first-team appearances.

His return has allowed his career to come full-circle, and Wagner cannot wait to get going after joining up with his new team-mates in Qatar at their winter training camp.

The hotshot said: “I’m really happy. A long journey comes to an end for me, I come home to my club, in my homeland.

“I am very happy that everything worked out. Bayern is the best club in Germany and one of the best in the world.

“When the offer came, I did not have to think twice.”

Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic added: “We are confident that Sandro Wagner will further enhance the quality of our team through his class and experience.”

Wagner, who has been given the No2 shirt at Bayern, has exploded onto the scene since joining Hoffenheim in 2016 from Darmstadt 98.

He bagged 15 goals in 40 Bundesliga matches for the club, earning him a maiden international call-up.

Wagner made his Germany debut in June against Denmark and he followed that up a few days later with a hat-trick against San Marino during a World Cup qualifier.

He has gone on to win seven caps so far and scored five times in total and was part of the successful Confederations Cup squad in the summer.

Wagner has also played for Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern and Hertha.

He will now be hoping to impress new boss Jupp Heynckes in the Middle East in order to make his second debut for his boyhood club after the mid-season break.

Bayern are next in action on Friday, December 12 when they travel to Leverkusen to continue their title charge.
