THE BBC were forced to apologise after audio was picked up of Shrewsbury fans swearing on live TV.
Paul Hurst’s men were held to a 0-0 draw against Premier League side West Ham at New Meadow in the FA Cup third round.
In a game where the League One outfit proved to be more than a match for the top-flight club, it was supporters swearing that proved to be one of the major talking points on social media.
Chris Martin, taking to Twitter, said: “The commentator has just had to apologise because the audio picked up Shrewsbury fans calling someone a w*****.
“This after catching a lass screaming “What a load of s****!” when the play was stopped due to injury.
“Magic of the cup, this.”
Another fan commented: “Best thing about #SHRWHU is the swearing by Shrewsbury fans!”
While another supporter said:”I will never understand why commentators have to apologise for fans in the background swearing. Who’s getting offended by that?”

One person wrote: “The ‘magic of the FA Cup’ being portrayed live on our screens this afternoon. Shocking game, Joe Hart borrowed a cap from a fan, BBC forgot to mute Shrewsbury fans chanting “you’re a w*****” and some kid’s just had a tooth knocked out.”
With another fan saying: “Shrewsbury v West Ham has it all. And by “it all” I mean audible swearing and a man bleeding profusely from his head before the watershed.”
