BBC rapped by footie fans for cutting short England kid’s World Cup triumph

FOOTIE fans have blasted the BBC for cutting coverage of England Under-20s lifting the World Cup.

Viewers were gripped by the 1-0 victory over Venezuela — our first major tournament win since 1966.

But with skipper Lewis Cook about to raise the trophy, BBC2 switched to the UK leg of the World Triathlon Series in Leeds.

Hollie Charles tweeted: “No one cares about the triathlon when England just won a World Cup final.”

Andrew Wallwork raged: “Joke coverage of a great achievement.”

Another fan said: “Can’t even be bothered to show presentation?! Astonishing.”

Disgusted fans also missed Dominic Solanke bagging the Golden Ball as player of the tournament, held in South Korea — and Woodman win Golden Glove as best goalie.

The BBC said the trophy presentation was available on its red button service.

The game was also available to watch on Eurosport 2, who showed the entire trophy presentation in full and the aftermath of Paul Simpson's side's celebrations.

And viewers were left on the edges of their seats when the video referee had to get involved to decide whether Abalberto Penaranda was fouled by Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Malaga forward went down as Walker-Peters made slight contact with his leg and referee Bjorn Kuipers initially awarded the penalty, before consulting the video match officials.

Penaranda's spot kick was then brilliantly saved by Woodman, to keep England's 1-0 lead intact and set them on course for a final victory.

Newcastle keeper Woodman told SunSport: "It’s crazy, just crazy to make the save like that – it hasn’t sunk in yet.

"I was trying to tell the ref it wasn’t a penalty and to look at VAR and he came back and said they’d looked and it was.

"So I quickly had to switch my mind on and think back to all the videos I’d been watching of their penalties.

"I’d watched them all week with the analysts, wrote it down memorised it and done all the homework."
