LIVERPOOL have reportedly restricted audio access to their Champions League clash against Spartak Moscow to their club website only.
And the BBC are believed to be shocked by the “monumentally restrictive” decision, according to the Guardian.
BBC Radio 5 Live were reportedly desperate to gain the rights to broadcast the match following the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Sevilla and failure to secure qualification to the knockout rounds.
Talks were ongoing and the BBC had advertised that they would have live coverage on their website.
But Liverpool have allegedly denied them the rights and instead allowed them to send one reporter, who can voice brief updates and post-match interviews.
While listeners will not be able to tune in on the radio station, they will still be able to follow live commentary of the match on Liverpool’s website, which they have repeatedly provided throughout this season’s European campaign.
Users must register with the website, which is free, but may deter neutral fans from doing so.
And internet access is now a necessity to hear live coverage of the match.
BT Sport will broadcast the match live on their subscription TV service.
Radio commentaries for Champions League games are negotiated between broadcasters and clubs on an individual game-by-game basis.
