SPOTY: BBC Sports Personality of the Year blasted by Piers Morgan after shocking Anthony Joshua snub

PIERS MORGAN launched a scathing attack on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards after Anthony Joshua’s incredible snub.

The heavyweight king went into the event as overwhelming favourite but did not even manage to crack the top three as Mo Farah scooped the gong.

Northern Ireland’s World Superbikes champion Jonathan Rea was a shock second, with gold-winning paralympian Jonnie Peacock third.

And the results saw Morgan label the show a shambles as viewers took to social media to voice their outrage.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, tweeted: “Absolute shambles at the end of #spoty . Congrats anyway to @Mo_Farah on winning (assuming he ever got his well-deserved award) but how on earth did @anthonyfjoshua & @LewisHamilton not make the Top3? The British public’s glittering record of voting insanity continues…”

Joshua, 28, was a 1-7 shot to triumph last night after beating Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam in two defences of his world titles.

But Olympic hero Farah, 34, was named the victor – leading some to label the show a “joke” and “farce”.

The runners’ video link was cut off before he had said a word in a high-profile gaffe, with US Olympic great Michael Johnson stepping in.

MO WAY Viewers convinced Paula Radcliffe’s husband called Mo Farah’s 2017 SPOTY win a ‘f****** joke’ or ‘con’

He said: “It’s well deserved. This year he came into his home championships, his last race on the track, and still delivered.

“Over the years he’s dominated, he’s out there by himself and always got the tactics right.”

The award was hit with fix claims when Farah was spotted with the award on his chair BEFORE the winner was announced.

Twitter users were sent into a frenzy after spotting the trophy next to him, with voting not even open at the time.

And Lewis Hamilton came under fire over his tax-dodging and dodgy nose ring.
