Sweden move one step closer to securing their place in the 2018 World Cup with a victory over Belarus.
Goals from Emil Forsberg, Christoffer Nyman, Marcus Berg and Andreas Granqvist capped off the 4-0 win at the Borisov Arena.
Sweden entered the fixture on the bounce of a shock 3-2 defeat to Bulgaria, but Janne Anderson’s side managed to refind their form tonight.
Three points for the visitors has shot them to the top of the Group A standings with 16 points from seven games. However, favourites France also have 16 points with a game in hand.
Belarus remain just one point above Luxembourg at the bottom with five points.
Forsberg opened the scoring at the Borisov Arena with a right-footed effort from close range, assisted by Mikael Lustig.
Nyman doubled his sides tally just six minutes after the opener with a strike from the centre of the box that rocketed into the top right corner.
Forsberg narrowly missed the chance to make it three after he rattled the woodwork with a 35-yard free-kick.
Janne Andersson’s side made it three with a sweet strike from Marcus Berg following an assist from Forsberg.
Sweden went into half-time boasting a three goal advantage over Igor Kriushenko’s side.
Belarus had very few chances for glory throughout, with Sergei Balanovich tallying the best of a bad bunch. His right-footed strike from outside the box was close, but it flew narrowly over the woodwork.
In the dying stages of the game Forsberg managed to draw a foul in the penalty area. Defender Granqvist put the game to bed with a strike into the bottom right corner from the spot.
Belarus were unable to muster a comeback, so it’s back to the drawing board for Kriushenko.
