Betting company Betway in row with Hull hours after West Ham’s shirt sponsors ripped into Michail Antonio’s Chelsea display

HULL have been dragged into a social media row with a betting company – just 36 hours after the West Ham shirt sponsors had to issue a grovelling apology to Michail Antonio.

Betway took a pop at Hammers wideman Antonio on Monday night after he gave away the penalty that led to Eden Hazard converting the opener in Chelsea’s 2-1 win.

And now the bookies have laid into Hull with a mock-up ‘to do list’ which they state is “not complicated”, before suggesting they sign a defender, a midfielder… and a striker!

Hull’s official Twitter account then hit back with their own mock-up list, suggesting that Betway remember not to criticise the players that they sponsor, in reference to their Antonio cock-up.

But that was not the end of the row.

The betting company then tweeted their entire following – of over 89,000 – with the message to Hull: “We’ve got a social media exec who can play centre back going on a free. Should we tell him to bring his boots on Saturday?”

Antonio has been playing as a makeshift right-back for the Hammers and came in for stick from the club’s shirt sponsors after hauling down Cesar Azpilicueta for the spot kick that handed Blues a 1-0 lead at Stamford Bridge.

Betway then tweeted: “Antonio has been an accident waiting to happen in defence, #WHUFC fans will hope that’s the end of the experiment.”

The club’s sponsors then apologised in a statement.

It read: “We have a passionate team of writers who provide impartial opinion across all sports. Betway acknowledges that this particular tweet is inappropriate in light of our relationship with West ham United, of which we are extremely proud. We would like to apologise to Michail, Slaven (Bilic) and the football club for any offence cause.”
