Blackburn Rovers have announced Tony Mowbray as their new head coach after the departure of Owen Coyle.
The 53-year-old former Middlesbrough and Ipswich defender has managed in the Premier League with West Brom and in the Scottish top flight with Celtic.
Last at League 1 basement club Coventry, he has agreed an 18-month contract with the Championship strugglers, who are three points from safety in 23rd.
Coyle left Rovers yesterday despite their good showing in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last weekend.
The 50-year-old was never the most popular appointment among fans having managed local rivals Burnley and Bolton in the past – getting the former into the Premier League for the first time in 2009.

He then moved on to West Brom, who he led to the Championship play-off final in his first season and then the Championship title in his second, as well as the last four of the FA Cup.
Scottish giants Celtic came calling in June 2009, before Mowbray returned to another of his former clubs, Middlesbrough, in October 2010.
The club’s dead of academy coaching David Lowe has stepped up to become assistant manager and club legend David Dunn will become first team coach.Mowbray will take training for the first time this afternoon, as the players prepare for Friday’s Championship clash away to fellow bottom half side Burton Albion.
