Brad Pickett on retiring on home soil: ‘I’d like to do what Urijah has done’

BRITISH bantamweight star Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett faces Urijah Faber in the Californian’s final fight on December 17 in Faber’s home town of Sacramento.

And the circumstances surrounding ‘The California Kid’s’ final fight have had him thinking about his own future.

“I’m looking at myself quite closely now to how long I’m going to be doing this for,” he told SunSport backstage at the UFC Belfast early weigh-ins.

“So I’m going to get this fight (out the way) and I’m looking at maybe fighting in London next year and seeing where we go from there.”

The proud Londoner will take his fight total to 38 contests when he takes on Faber in December.

And he says the UFC’s upcoming event at The O2 in London on March 18 could represent the last opportunity for him to go out on a high in his home town.

“Maybe that might be my swansong,” he admitted.

“Me, I’d like to do what Urijah has done – hang up his gloves in his home town. That’s what I would like to do.

“I don’t feel I have another year left in me to do the following year, so this may be the only opportunity.”
